Ponni Rice is special variety which is developed by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University as a hybrid between Taichung65 & Myang Ebos 6080/2. It is so named because this rice variety is most commonly cultivated along banks of river Kaveri which is also known as Ponni. This rice is completely suitable to be used for preparation of idly, fried rice, and various North & South Indian Cuisines. Ponni Rice is known for having high nutritional value including protein, minerals, carbohydrates, and vitamins. It has low glycemic index which makes it suitable to be consumed by diabetic people. This rice is also admired for having high fiber, low cholesterol, and gluten free nature.
